Brief History

Australia-DRC Chamber for Business and Industry Development (AUS-DRC CBID) Incorporated is the first local Chamber in Australia that focuses on leveraging business and investment opportunities between Australia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to build and strengthen the bilateral trade relationships between the two countries

When the AUS-DRC CBID was launched, the DRC had neither a diplomatic nor a consular mission in Australia. This lack of a representative body constantly worked against the commercial interests of these two countries. While Australian companies struggled to maintain their position in the Congolese market, in the DRC, there were massive and accelerated losses of exploration and mining permits by several Australian companies. Added to this is the fact that Australian companies interested in sectors other than mining are virtually absent in the DRC. There was also virtually no competent structure that could truly understand the local business culture, procedures, and how to properly support Australian companies and ensure their sustainability in the DRC.

AUS-DRC CBID is positioned in the middle to not only fill the gap but also, and more importantly, clarify gray areas for both parties and implement a sound support policy for our members in both countries.

AUS-DRC CBID is a platform through which Australian and Congolese businesses connect to maximize the potential of bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

One of our goals is to ensure that Australia is on the DRC’s list of priority partners, and that the DRC becomes the first choice for Australians when it comes to investing or doing business in French-speaking countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Officially registered in June 2025, AUS-DRC CBID operates through some of its members, which are legal entities established between Australia and the DRC.
